Vintage

Vintage (from the English vintage, which means vintage) was first used by French winemakers, as a designation of expensive aged wine of the highest grade. In the interior, vintage is a unique mix, which contains items that have at least twenty years of history or stylized antique.

From the history of style.

Such interior style as vintage has French roots. The concept of vintage was first applied in winemaking in relation to exclusive and high-quality wines. Each vintage has its own unique bouquet, often these wines were produced only in years with a good harvest. Over time, these wines took their place in the collections of connoisseurs of this drink. In the twentieth century, designers decided to borrow this concept, applying it to the interior, but retaining the basic essence. Vintage is an interior with a history, where each thing is not just a separate element of decor, but a whole chronicle.

Materials and finish

Vintage pays tribute to the past, so ultra-modern and artificial materials in it are unacceptable. Preference is given to wood, stone, metal and porcelain. At the same time, it is customary to use paint to cover the ceiling, sometimes adding a crackle effect to emphasize the “touch of time”. The floors are often wooden, lined with parquet boards or decorated with patterned carpets. For walls, the choice of materials is more diverse: Wallpaper in pastel colors, wood panels or even textiles.

Color scheme

Preference is given to pastel and muted tones. The dominant color in the interior is ivory, while it is successfully combined with olive, lavender, mint and other soft shades. However, sometimes in a vintage interior to emphasize a special detail, use contrasting colors. Often this is a classic combination of white and black.

Vintage Furniture

Vintage-style furniture does not have any specific features. Its main distinguishing characteristic is the scuffing or antique styling. At the same time, pieces of furniture collected in one room can belong not only to different styles, but also to different eras. For example, a soft sofa from the 80-ies of the XXI century and an old sideboard VII will be harmoniously combined in a vintage living room. Often, the interior uses furniture converted from items that were not previously such. This can be an old suitcase, turned into a pouf or a regular box, decorated with a coffee table.

Decor

Vintage style is based on details. Decorative elements that are used, should complete the image of a cozy home, which has lived for more than one generation. Knitted blankets, openwork napkins and embroidered pillows are the best way to add home comfort to the interior. In addition, special attention is paid to things that have their own history. They may be old dolls, photographs hung on the walls, mirrors in massive bronze frames.
Special attention is paid to the colors in the vintage interior. They are present not only in the form of patterns on surfaces, but also as a separate element of decor. Fresh flowers are quite successfully replaced with dried flowers and placed around the room in high brass or crystal vases.
