Provincial classicism – decor in the style of grunge.
The grunge style came to us from France. It is strangely intertwined with the simplicity of provincial classics and rustic style, there is no false luxury-ornate carvings on the furniture and ornate baguettes.
A little history of grunge style
Such an interior style as grunge originated in France at the end of the NINETEENTH century. At that time, the aristocracy, tired of the hustle and bustle of big cities, began to move to the hinterland, changing the limited space of apartments for luxury mansions. Trying to distinguish their home from others, they paid special attention to the landscape, creating gardens with living sculptures of various forms, and the interior, making it simple and elegant.
The interior is usually executed in a neutral color palette that contains all shades of gray and brown. Grunge style can’t do without classic white and black colors.
It is considered that the interior in the grunge style is not created for a couple of years, while the room will not require any cosmetic repairs or re-equipment. Therefore, only natural materials of the highest quality are used, designed not only to make the interior durable, but also to create an environmentally friendly environment in the room. Preference is given to brick, stone, wood and natural fabrics.
Features of room decoration
The interior in the grunge style can be fully created only in a spacious and bright room, because its main enemy is crowding. This is due not only to the features of the style itself, but also to the materials that are used for finishing. For example, walls made of brick or stone will look out of place in a small room.
Another feature of the grunge style is that it is impossible to single out one material that would be used in finishing a certain surface. So, a brick wall can go into the ceiling also lined with brick and reinforced with wooden beams. At the same time, the wooden floor may have stone inserts located in front of the fireplace, which will be in harmony with the design of the chimney.
However, often in the grunge style prefer simplicity, choosing simple painted walls and ceiling, and the floors are made of wood or covered with a carpet made of natural materials.
Furniture in grunge style
All pieces of furniture that are used to create an interior in the grunge style, one way or another, have their counterparts in the classic style. Its main difference from classicism is the absence of pretentious elements such as stucco, intricate carvings and gilding. Preference is given to soft sofas upholstered in natural fabric, small wooden tables, bedside tables and bookshelves.
Grunge style can not be considered complete if it does not have the appropriate decoration items – floor lamps, forged elements, bronze figures and paintings. It is worth noting that the objects of art in the interior play a special role. On the walls should be present paintings in pastel colors, which, however, can be replaced by family photos, made in the appropriate style.
