Chalet

Chalet-originally a small house in the mountains, which was a safe haven for shepherds during bad weather. They built it from materials that can be easily obtained in the forest: wood and stone. Over time, the simplicity and comfort of these houses won designers around the world.

The Chalet style has become popular not only for building houses, but also for decorating the interior of apartments.

Little history

The interior style of the Chalet comes from the province of Savoy, located in the South-East of France. The very concept of a Chalet (from the French chalet) means a house that was often located on the shore of a pond. Originally, the Chalet was called a wooden structure in the Alps, which served as a shelter from the weather for shepherds. In the mid-70s of the twentieth century, Chalet-style houses (namely, wooden houses with stone foundations) began to be built all over the world. At the same time, the Chalet-style interior is gaining popularity, the main principle of which is naturalness and environmental friendliness.

Materials

The style of the Chalet assumes maximum unity with nature, so it gives preference to natural materials. Special attention is paid to wood in the interior. It is used not only for finishing, but also as a material for making furniture and other interior details. However, no less attention is paid to natural stone as a finishing material.

Finish

Wood is the main finishing material. It is used as a floor covering, without painting, open with varnish or stain; as wall panels; and, of course, the interior in the style of the Chalet can not be considered complete without massive ceiling beams. However, the walls are often left simply plastered or painted.

Colors

The color scheme of the Chalet is as close to nature as possible. The interior is dominated by all shades of brown, beige, cream and terracotta. The main emphasis is on warm colors. Often, darker and richer colors are used to emphasize a particular detail: chocolate, dark green, and Burgundy.

Furniture

The Chalet-style furniture is often aged and has simple, sometimes rough shapes. At the same time, preference is given to massive pieces of furniture made of wood and genuine leather. So an essential attribute of the Chalet-style living room is a large leather sofa, which is the embodiment of a certain roughness and simplicity, and a coffee or coffee table, carved from wood.

Decor

The Chalet-style interior is impossible to imagine not only without wooden ceiling beams, but also without a fireplace. It is often located in the living room and decorated with natural or artificial stone. However, over time, fireplaces as a decorative item began to be placed in bedrooms, and even in bathrooms.
Decorative design in the style of a Chalet is traditionally divided into two main areas: women’s and men’s. The male type of interior is the embodiment of the idea of “hunting romance”. Weapons and hunting trophies are often hung on the walls, and animal skins are spread out on the floor. There are also forged elements in this interior: from a set of tools for the fireplace to frames on paintings or mirrors.

The female type of interior is aimed at creating comfort in the house with the help of dishes and textiles. It is characterized by paintings in wooden frames, pottery, embroidered pillows and textile tablecloths. Plants are another integral part of the decor. This can be either live wild flowers or dried bouquets and wreaths.
